(1920-1999)
Ethel Winternheimer Staton was born April 18, 1920 in Valley City, North Dakota. Mrs. Staton earned her education degrees from State Teacher’s College in Valley City, University of Nevada in Reno and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Mrs. Staton had the opportunity to teach in several states throughout the country. In 1950, she moved to Las Vegas and began a wonderfully long rewarding career within our state. Later in her career she became a reading teacher and eventually helped develop and implement the Reading Improvement Program (RIP) for CCSD.
In 1980 Mrs. Staton retired from teaching. She truly loved children and the work she accomplished. In 1999 Mrs. Staton received news that she was to be the namesake for our school and she was truly touched. Unfortunately she succumbed to her battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) that same year. She is survived by her two sons and her husband. Mr. Staton visits our campus often and states that Ethel would have been very proud of the school, staff and the children.
