Ms. Karalias Welcome to the Staton Studio! My name is Constance Karalias and I am so excited to be a part of the Staton ES community. My priority is to foster a safe and respectful learning environment where students engage their hearts, minds and hands in exploring the visual arts. In each lesson students learn about Art History, Aesthetics, Art Criticism and Art Production through various forms of media like painting, printmaking, ceramics and much more. Additionally, students cultivate studio habits and artistic behaviors through sustained practice and reflection. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction in Art Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I am most fortunate to be in my 26th year of teaching young people about the wonderful world of art. Outside of the classroom I enjoy my own creative pursuits like collage, gardening, cooking, and travel. Contact me at maragc@nv.ccsd.net . Wish List Close Edit favorite things

Ms. Venneman I was born and raised in a suburb outside of St. Louis, Missouri. My first career was with TWA/AA for 12 ½ years. It was after 911 that I found myself furloughed and soul searching…I reflected on my childhood dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. In 2006, I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville University St. Louis. After teaching third grade in a private school for six years, I wanted a new adventure and a warmer climate. I became part of the Staton Elementary family in 2013 and this 2022/2023 school year will be my 16th year teaching third grade. The administration and staff work hand in hand to make Staton Elementary a welcoming place for our students. Teaching children is a new adventure that brings new challenges every day. Children carry such individual special lights and my goal is to help each of my students shine. Wish List Edit favorite things

Mrs. Minkoff Hello! I’m Helen Minkoff and am thrilled to begin another year at Staton Elementary as a 2nd grade teacher. I’ve been teaching for 28 years and have been a Staton Pioneer since 2007. My husband, who also teaches at Staton, and I moved here from Florida in 1998 where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I’ve since earned my Master’s Degree in Reading from Walden University and became a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy. Both of my sons attend the University of Nevada, Reno. Matthew is a junior and Alex is a freshman. We enjoyed watching them both play baseball and spent many hours and weekends at the ball field cheering them on. Now, with both boys away, I need to find some new hobbies! We have two adorable cats, Rascal and Fluffy, who give us loads of love, laughter, and cuddles. As a family, we love going on cruises and traveling to new places. I also enjoy peanut butter, reading, baking, dancing, going to Costco, and organizing! My passion is to foster a love of learning, growth mindset, kindness, communication skills, empathy, and real world applications so my students are well rounded and understand knowledge goes beyond the walls of our classroom. Mrs. Guinn My name is Kim Guinn and I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I've been married for thirty-one years. My husband and I have two grown children. Now, we have a dog named Pancho that lives with us. This furry friend has become a member of our family. When I'm home you can find him walking beside me or sitting at my feet. Teaching music is the only thing I've ever thought of doing. I just completed my twenty-seventh year. I taught for ten years in Oklahoma, then after moving to Las Vegas, five years at Alamo ES, and the last twelve years at Staton. Out of all of the experiences I've had, my favorite thing is putting on productions with my performing group, Harmony Pioneers. There are many reasons why I love music so much. It can lift you up, reduce stress, and improve your blood flow. Personally, I enjoy experiencing music through singing, dancing, playing in drum circles, and watching musical theatre. There are so many different ways to be involved in music. There truly is something for everyone. When I'm not involved in music you can find me listening to an audiobook, going on a walk, working in our yard, making a dessert, eating mexican food, or watching the Golden Knights and shouting "Go Knights Go!" Mrs. Mann You might have seen me wandering around the hallways, surrounded by students programming robots or building balsa wood bridges. You might have stopped by my classroom and seen students sprawled over the floor designing awesome inventions. Maybe you heard a few students around the school arguing about whether they wanted to be a neurosurgeon or a cardiologist after dissecting sheep brains. If so, you have been exposed to what my GATE students are experiencing every day. My name is Teri Mann, and I have been a teacher within the Clark County School district for over 16 years. I am also proud to call Staton Elementary School my home for the last 14 of those years. I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade before landing my dream job of teaching GATE at Staton. I am a proud graduate of the UNLV College of Education. I love UNLV so much that I decided to attend there twice! My Bachelor’s Degree is in Elementary Education and my Masters Degree is in Gifted Education (Go Rebels!). Gifted education is my passion. I love learning and enjoy sharing that love with my students. My goal is for them to become lifelong learners who question and think for themselves. Education is a family affair in my house as my husband is a high school computer science teacher with CCSD. My two boys (being gifted themselves) manage to keep me on my toes. I am a self-proclaimed science nerd who loves books and all things Harry Potter. So the next time you see my students doing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math, figure that you have entered into “The GATE Zone”. Wish List Close Edit favorite things

Mrs. Tweedy Hi, my name is Paige Tweedy, and I am super excited about this year! I was born and grew up in South Mississippi. I received my bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from UNLV. I started my teaching career with high school inclusion then moved to a private preschool. It was there that I discovered that's where my heart is, teaching the youngest students. I taught there until my first child was born and I became a stay home Mom. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 27 years! We have two amazing children, 19 and 20 who are both in college now, one in Arizona and one back in Mississippi. This will be our second year of empty nesting with our 13-year-old Yorkie, Lacy. We have a large, close family that we go home to visit each summer and Christmas. So, most of my free time is spent traveling to see my children and family. Our family relocated to Las Vegas in 2011 and in 2013 I came to the BEST school ever, Staton, where we have an awesome staff whose main purpose and goal is the success of every child. This will be my eighth year here at Staton teaching PreK and I feel confident that it will be great one. I look forward to meeting and working with our youngest Staton Pioneers. Ms. Martinez Hi, my name is Toni Martinez. I love teaching first grade at Staton. This is my 5th year at Staton and my 25th year teaching. I have been so fortunate to teach in such a wonderful community. I am originally from Illinois. I graduated from Elmhurst College and came to Las Vegas for my first teaching job and have never looked back. I have taught 2nd grade for 5 years but my passion has been 1st. I love to see all the growth made throughout the year in 1st grade. It is truly quite an accomplishment that the students make. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy going to sporting events (I love the Chicago Cubs), concerts, traveling and going to the beach. Most of all I love to spend time with my son and daughter. Brad is completing his senior year at UNLV and my daughter Morgan has just started at UNLV. I have loved watching them grow and can't wait to see what the future holds for them. I am looking forward to a wonderful year at Staton. I will be sure to make each student feel safe and welcomed in my classroom. We will learn so much this year and I hope that I can instill a passion for learning in all the students I encounter, but we will also have fun making lifelong memories!
