The student participates in a real-time class session (e.g., attends a live Google Meet). 3. Once online learning gets started, how do I report an absence for my child if they are sick and not able to participate online?" Regular attendance is not only important to your child’s success in school, but it is the State Law and District Policy for all students to attend virtual learning during all times that public school is in session. Please send an email to absences204@nv.ccsd.net (mailto:absences204@nv.ccsd.net)stating the reason for the absence within three days. Will there be homework expected for my student? At Staton, we know that parents are going to be doing a huge part of assisting students with their daily school work. Due to this we are not going to provide homework as we want students to enjoy reading and outdoor activities at their leisure at night. What about curriculum? What will be used? Besides the ALM classrooms, all other classrooms will follow our Staton curriculum that is aligned to the Nevada Academic Content Standards. We have updated this on our website for easy viewing. Please go to statonelementary.com, click on Parents, then click on Staton Curriculum.(javascript:void(0)) Teachers will be continuing to use this curriculum and materials as we go online. How do I find out important information from the school? We suggest you “like” or join either or both pages! Additionally, we will be sending out a weekly “smore”(javascript:void(0)) that will come to you both via email and text message, this will outline important information each week and events! Additionally, we will continue with monthly calendars that will be sent digitally to all parents! How can I keep up to date with my child’s school progress and grades? Our family looks forward to picnic in the park and trunk or treat every year, and of course all the other events that typically follow!" At this time, we are not able to hold any traditional events due to the Governor’s orders. PTO is working tirelessly to ensure we do have community events, but they will look differently! Please stay tuned as we have some exciting things coming up, please check out our social media and weekly smore (javascript:void(0))to find out what is happening! Will students still be doing MAPS assessments? Yes! Students will be participating in online MAPS assessments. These will be done from home and will help the teacher guide instruction for the year. Specific timelines and details for how these will work will be sent out in a few weeks. Each student in K – 5 will take an ELA and Math assessment. PreK students will not take this assessment. MAP Growth will be administered remotely for all students in Grades K-10 with proctoring support from parents/guardians in collaboration with the classroom teacher. Dates for assessments, parent guides and specific guidance will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. At this time, we have set tentative dates for MAPS assessments but the actual time will be coming from your classroom teacher. What if I still have questions? Please join us for a special Talk Time with Tomlinson at TBA to ask your questions directly to Mrs. Tomlinson! We appreciate your patience as we work through all of this uncertainty and promise you that Staton is going to keep our theme of “Anchored in Learning: Staton Sails for Success” at the forefront of all planning, implementing and teaching through this year!

  • Why Enrollment Matters | staton-elementary

Benefits of Enrolling at Staton As we enter into the world of online learning and we still wonder how this all works PTO wants to remind you this has been done before. Our teachers are the Mr. Rogers of 2020 and everything will be fine, better then fine! Why are PTO parents keeping their kids enrolled at Staton: 💚 flexibility of live or recorded teaching 🖤limited and effective time in front of the computer (1-3 hrs a day) 💚teachers who are willing to work with families and students to make each individual online learning experience effective 🖤community 💚access to a school counselor 🖤cost: savings of up to $20,000 vs. purchasing homeschool curriculum or tuition at private school 💚rigorous curriculum provided by Staton that we have known and trusted for years 🖤differentiated instruction as needed for each student If you have questions or concerns please contact the PTO President, Shannan Ohlson, at StatonPTOpresident@gmail.com our Principal, Mrs. Tomlinson, at ozmunlm@nv.ccsd.net or your assigned teacher. If you have already withdrawn you still have time to re-enroll before Monday. I understand parents’ concerns with distance learning but we must also remember that this too shall pass and consider the long term effects of our decisions. Staton teachers are doing our absolute best to ensure that students are engaged and confident in their learning as we enter this unique school year! We always have and always will put our kids first! We’ve got this, Staton community🙌🏻💗 -Mrs. Trochenski, 3rd Grade Teacher We 💚 our Staton community. If any Staton parents have q’s don’t hesitate to reach out! -Shannan O., Parent I’m keeping my kids in our zoned schools. I have faith in our teachers and admin. I know this won’t be easy AT ALL but we are committed to our kids education, to our kids schools and to public education. If you leave your zoned school to homeschool or to go to private, which I totally understand, please know that if and when you come back THIS school year, we will have already had to let teachers go due to lower enrollment and class sizes will increase UNTIL THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. If you leave, I hope you find what works best for your family. If you want to come back to your zoned school please do it next school year when we can get funding to rehire teachers. Good luck everyone! -Leigh-Ann M., Parent If you are a parent thinking of homeschooling your child until we return in person please reconsider. The amount of teachers at a school is determined by how many students enroll by count day. If you keep your child home for the first few weeks, we lose the funding for your student for the whole year. We will lose teachers because we don't have the money to keep them. If you decide to enroll your child a few weeks into the school year, our classrooms will become overcrowded. We will not have the money or the ability to hire more teachers at that point. I know distance learning is a new experience for everyone, but don't let that scare you away. -Mrs. Mann, GATE Teacher I know there’s a lot of uncertainty, but if there is a group of people who know how to prepare and implement during times of uncertainty it’s teachers...we are more than ready for this and we are in the business of making kids successful! -Mrs. Treichel, 5th Grade Teacher
